m:IQ is a free service for customers with supported phones and a data plan from their operator. Check with your operator to make sure you have a data plan; if you don’t, costs can be significant – especially when roaming.
A supported phone (click here to see the list).
A data plan.
A data plan allows you to access the Internet from your phone for monthly fee.
Most of the value that m:IQ delivers requires a data connection and consumes large chunks of data. As such, we strongly recommend an unlimited data plan.
m:IQ is current available for phones running Android 2.1, BlackBerry 4.2 and up, Windows Mobile 6, and Symbian S60 3rd and 5th Edition operating systems. Hundreds of phones are supported (click here to see the list)!
m:IQ Mobile is a super small application that is installed on your mobile phone to run in the background – allowing you to use the m:IQ service. It sends updates from your phone (text messages, contacts, call history, photos, videos, etc.) to m:IQ servers, which are then added to your personal m:IQ web page. In order for m:IQ to work, you need to have m:IQ Mobile installed on your phone.
You can find m:IQ on many App stores, including BlackBerry App World, Android Market, and a number of third party sites. You can also download m:IQ Mobile by visiting http://m.miqlive.com on your mobile phone's web browser.
m:IQ is designed to take up as little space as possible on your phone. Depending on the phone you have, the size will vary, but the application download ranges from 210 KB to 1.2 M. Unfortunately, at this point it’s not possible to save the application to your storage card.
This varies by mobile phone platform, but the primary connection options are as follows:
| Connection Method | Connection Type | m:IQ Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless (WAN) | GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, EVDO, etc. | Unlimited data plan recommended |
| Wireless (LAN,PAN) | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth | Free to use m:IQ in open Wi-Fi hotspot or connecting with Bluetooth computer |
| Wired | USB | Free to use m:IQ if connected to your computer through USB pass thru - Windows Mobile only |
In terms of how your phone will actually connect, essentially m:IQ uses whatever data connection your mobile phone is using at the time. In some platforms, the Operating System automatically selects the connection type that all phone resources will use. In others, you’ll be prompted to choose the connection type you want to use. The m:IQ Mobile application has no control over what data connection your phone will select, but on some phone platforms, it will enable you opt to sync your media items only when connected via Wi-Fi (Menu > Settings).
We know you said you can’t afford an unlimited plan, but we still strongly recommend that you get one in order to use the m:IQ solution. Although it’s possible to connect to m:IQ via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB (depending upon the platform), it’s surprisingly easy to drop one of these connections and inadvertently switch to your wireless data, which unfortunately could result in a very nasty bill at the end of the month. If you want to use m:IQ , it is strongly recommended that you have an unlimited data plan.
That being said, perhaps you’re interested in limiting your data consumption to help save costs for your friendly mobile operator (crazier things have happened). The best way to do so is to connect via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB. The next best way is to switch to Manual Sync mode in your m:IQ Mobile client (Menu > Settings). You can also always opt to sync all of your media via Wi-Fi only (Menu > Settings). Finally, you can choose to not sync high-bandwidth data types such as photos and videos by unchecking these items in your Sync Items (Menu > Items to Sync).

You might not be using a phone that our service supports. At this point, m:IQ only works on phones running Android 2.1, BlackBerry 4.2+, Windows Mobile 6.x, or Symbian S60 3rd and 5th Edition operating systems.
Assuming your phone is running one of those operating systems, then it's likely m:IQ will work on your phone. We have been so busy improving the solution that we haven't had time to add every specific phone to our device list on the web just yet.
In the meantime, you should just go ahead and sign-up by selecting any phone image you’d like, as our solution will work fine irrespective of the device image that you select. However, please send us the missing phone details by visiting http://miqlive.com/about/feedback and we’ll be sure to get it added as quickly as possible.
There are three main places to sign up for a free m:IQ account. You can sign up on your phone by downloading mIQ from many App stores such as BlackBerry App World, Android Market, Handango, and Mobihand. Or, from your phone's browser, visit http://m.miqlive.com.
Alternatively, visit http://www.miqlive.com/signup on your computer web browser.
Registration takes a few minutes, though you will need a supported phone and data plan to use the service.
Many BlackBerry phones include security controls that prevent applications from accessing certain parts of the phone unless permission is granted by the user. This varies from phone to phone, and is largely dependent upon whether or not a BlackBerry hits a corporate infrastructure. Unfortunately, this means that you might see no prompts, might see 4 of them, or might see 20 of them!
When you first install the m:IQ Mobile application, you’ll have the option to Set Application Permissions. If you select this, then you’ll receive all sorts of prompts for almost every action you take. If you don’t, then you’ll limit the number of prompts you’ll see going forward.
Our mobile application then determines in advance how many times you’re going to be prompted, and if it’s 5 or more times, then we pop up a dialog box where the only option available to you is to hit View. Once you hit View, you’re unfortunately going to see a pretty intense screen, but if you trust us, then you’ll just hit the BlackBerry Menu button and then select Save.
If you’re going to see 4 or less prompts, then unless you choose to see additional prompts, then the process should be quick and easy for you.
If the download is interrupted for some reason (like if you went out of wireless coverage), just visit http://m.miqlive.com from your phone browser and try again.
When you installed the m:IQ Mobile client on your phone and created your account, the content on your phone that you opted to sync uploaded to the m:IQ servers – where it is waiting for an account to be created that “claims” it. The only way that the content can be claimed is if the claim code you were given is input during the sign-up process on the web. If the content you uploaded is not claimed within 48 hours, then we delete it from our system, and you’ll have to upload your phone content all over again.
We use a claim code to simplify the sign-up process for users who are not currently in front of a computer.
Your claim code will be stored in the m:IQ Mobile client on your phone. To access it, simply click on the m:IQ program icon and you should be presented with your claim code.
If you didn’t finalize the account creation process on the web within 48 hours, then your content was wiped from our servers and you’re going to have to upload all over again.

The dashboard is your private view into everything related to your mobile phone. Your phone content – contacts, text messages, calls, calendar events, photos, videos, and some of your phone settings – is seamlessly uploaded from your phone and safely backed-up on your dashboard.
From the dashboard, you have access to at-a-glance information from the main viewing panel, or you can choose to navigate more deeply into the details of a specific tile. Either click on a specific item within the tile for a more detailed view or click on the navigation icons in the page header to see all items within a specific data type.
Only you have access to your dashboard view on the web, though you do have the option to share certain content from your dashboard (like photos and videos) with friends and the social sites you use to stay connected with them.
Think of the dashboard as your private view into everything related to your mobile phone, while your shared pages are customized opportunities to share all of the cool mobile experiences that were previously trapped on your phone. Shared pages can include photos, videos, and status updates. What you see as well as whom has access is completely customized and controlled by you through your Settings accessed by clicking on the link in the top right corner of your web dashboard.
If this is your first time visiting the dashboard, then your phone content is likely still in the process of uploading your content to the cloud before it can be displayed on the web. Depending on the web browser you are using, you may need to refresh the page.
If you still aren’t seeing anything, visit http://m.miqlive.com from your phone browser to download the application and try again. Please make sure you have selected the items you want to upload (photos, videos, messages, call history, contracts) by clicking on Items to Sync within the main menu of the m:IQ mobile application. If this still doesn’t work, then please reach out to http://miqlive.com/about/feedback .
In order for changes on your phone to automatically show up on the web, the m:IQ Mobile client needs to be running on your phone. To make sure it is on and running properly, simply click on the m:IQ icon on your mobile phone and make sure that that the client is set to automatic sync (Menu > Settings) and that the status is showing that it’s “Connected and In Sync.”
We also recommend refreshing your browser, as sometimes this will display updates that the phone has actually already sent to the web.
m:IQ works on Mozilla Firefox 2.x/3.x, Safari 2.x, or Internet Explorer 7.x/8.x. You’ll need Flash 9 or later installed on your browser as well.
From a performance perspective, users have reported that Firefox and Safari perform the best, which is why they are the browsers we recommend using with the m:IQ solution. If you’re an Internet Explorer user, then we recommend installing Google Chrome Frame (http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/) to dramatically improve m:IQ performance.
m:IQ makes everything remarkably easy – as long as your new phone is supported by the m:IQ service.
On the web, your old content will remain accessible and will not be deleted when you change to a new phone. If the new phone contains content not on the web, then that content will be added to your web account. In the case of contacts, our server is designed to prevent duplicate entries and should handle everything behind the scenes.
On the phone, m:IQ will help you to restore and merge your contacts, calendar events, and web bookmarks (except BlackBerry). Your photos, videos, text messages, and call logs will not yet be restored to your new phone, though they will remain backed up and accessible online.
To change phones, simply click on the device image in the Your Phone section and select your new phone. Follow the on-screen instructions, which will indicate that you need to go to http://m.miqlive.com on your mobile phone web browser to download the m:IQ Mobile application.
The story is the same for reconfiguring a reset device.

There shouldn’t be a major impact, but there definitely is one since you’ll be communicating with our servers and syncing data. m:IQ relies on a client-server data connection, and so a small amount of data is exchanged to keep the connection alive – which results in a minimum amount of battery drain. Battery life is also hit when you have content to sync, as the phone is working in the background to send the data to our servers. The good news is that we’ve spent countless hours figuring out how to keep battery impact as small as possible – and we’ll spend countless more. At this point, the impact to your battery should be similar to using push e-mail.
If you’re still concerned about battery drain, then your best bet is to limit the photos and videos you upload to your m:IQ account. You can also switch to Manual sync mode (Menu > Settings), though this is does not deliver as powerful of an experience as Automatic sync. Finally, you can choose not to sync battery-intensive content such as photos and videos by unchecking these data types in your Items to Sync (Menu > Items to Sync).
Your best bet is to limit the photos and videos you upload to your m:IQ account. Finally, you can choose not to sync battery-intensive content such as photos and videos by unchecking these data types in your Items to Sync (Menu > Items to Sync).
That depends on the level of your activity as well as what type of phone (and camera) you’re carrying. Photos and videos are larger files, so every time you capture media that’s uploaded to m:IQ , you consume a decent chunk of data. Capture and sync 20 photos per month – and if you’re on a small data plan or if you have a high megapixel camera – then you might be in trouble.
In addition to this, m:IQ relies on a client-server data connection, and so a small amount of data is exchanged to keep the connection alive in the Automatic sync scenario.
As a result, m:IQ strongly recommends an unlimited data plan.
If you want for the changes you make on the phone to update to the web (and vice versa) – then yes.
Your content will only automatically synchronize if the m:IQ Mobile client is running at the time, set to automatic sync (Menu > Settings), and showing that it’s “Connected and In Sync” at the time. Your content will only manually sync if you hit Sync Now on the m:IQ Mobile client.
Chances are that it’s not exiting on its own, but rather being forced to close by your phone’s task manager. Some phones have utilities on them that automatically shut down applications that are running in the background in order to preserve phone memory. If m:IQ keeps exiting, then you’re going to want to check to see if other applications are doing the same thing. If so, then it’s your task manager or a third party utility. If not, then perhaps there’s a bug, and you should submit your feedback to http://miqlive.com/about/feedback .
Some mobile phones ask the user to permit network access if an application tries to connect to the Internet using the data settings. It wants to make sure you’re cool with going on the Internet from your phone just in case you don’t have a data plan. You may receive a prompt when starting m:IQ because the sweet features that m:IQ enables require your mobile phone to connect to the Internet to send and receive data. Assuming you have an unlimited data plan – you should agree to allow Internet or network access when prompted.
Currently, only one phone per account can be connected to m:IQ at any given time for the service to work correctly. Having multiple phones logged into the same account at any one time may result in the service not working properly.
If you have purchased a new phone that the m:IQ service supports, and want to replace that as your primary phone, then should visit http://m.miqlive.com on your new phone to download the m:IQ Mobile client. You will then be prompted to walk through a wizard that will help you automatically set-up your phone and sync the appropriate information from your m:IQ account to your new phone.
No, unfortunately you cannot. The good news is that the m:IQ Mobile client is a very small application that should not overly tax your phone memory.
Simply visit http://m.miqlive.com from your mobile phone web browser and click on the appropriate link to download the m:IQ Mobile client.

Although m:IQ doesn’t support all the contact fields that some phone or personal information managers do, it does cover the vast majority of the ones supported on the phones that work with our service. Furthermore, even though we don’t display all fields on the web, we have made an attempt to back-up most of them to our server so that they can be sent to your phone should you need to restore them. This isn’t foolproof (particularly across different phone platforms), but we’ve gotten reasonably close. This also varies by specific phone.
In terms of changes you make to your contacts, these will be instantly updated on your phone (and vice versa).
Keep in mind that m:IQ will not sync your SIM contacts – only the ones stored on your default phone memory.
You can either do so directly from your phone or you can do so on the web using the m:IQ contact editor. Simply open up an individual contact, click on Edit above the contact details, click on the user image to the left of the contact’s name, and select the photo that you want to associate with that contact.
Don’t have a picture of this person? Since m:IQ automatically uploads your photos from your phone to the dashboard or allows you to upload photos from your computer – this shouldn’t be a problem for long.
In order for contact changes to instantly update, you’ll need to make sure that your m:IQ Mobile client is on, set to automatic sync, and connected and in sync. If one of those criteria isn’t present, then your contact changes will only update when you hit a Sync Now from the mobile client – assuming you have connectivity.
You can send text messages or e-mails to your contacts from the dashboard. If you have a VoIP application like Skype installed on your computer, then you can click on the call link in the contact details to initiate a voice call (though you’ll want to make sure that pop-up blockers are turned off).
From the main view, simply click on the unknown number or on the “+” next to the number, and you’ll have the option to save that number to your contact list. Fill in whatever details you know about that person, save it, and the contact will be updated in your m:IQ web page as well as on your phone.
Start typing and you’ll see for yourself. Basically, it searches across all supported fields and filters your contacts to include only those with matches to what you typed in the search bar.
For example, if you typed in “Peter,” then the window would display all contacts that contained “Peter” in the information we collect in the contact fields (name, e-mail, address, tags, etc.).
If you typed in “Peter Janowski,” then you would see all contacts that included “Peter” and “Janowski” somewhere in the contact fields.
Absolutely! m:IQ makes everything remarkably easy as long as your new phone is supported by the m:IQ service. Simply click on the change phone link or device image next to your phone profile and select your new phone. You’ll then need to download the m:IQ Mobile application by visiting http://m.miqlive.com on your mobile phone web browser. m:IQ will then help to restore and merge your contacts in our system to your new phone in minutes.
The story is the same for reconfiguring a reset device.
Keep in mind that, although we do our best, some contact fields might not properly restore.
Yes, you can still use m:IQ even if you’re using a service such as Outlook, Exchange, Google, etc. Some of our customers have had a few issues during initial sync, so please read on if you’re using any of these or other sync services.
Ideally, any change you make on m:IQ will update on your phone, which will then trigger an update with your other contact sync solution. If you change something on the other solution, it should then update on your phone, which will then update on m:IQ. If you change on your phone, then it will update both of the solutions.
Where things start to get messy is when you have a brand new phone or one that you’ve recently reset. In this case, as long as you sync with the other solution first and then m:IQ second, then you should not run into any problems. Problems will only arise if you connect to m:IQ first and then the other solution second, in which case your contacts will duplicate due to how other sync solutions assign unique IDs (long, boring story). This will only be an issue for initial sync, and not an ongoing problem.
Short answer: yes, but for initial sync you’ll want to make sure to connect to your other sync solution first and m:IQ second. If you have further questions, please reach out to http://miqlive.com/about/feedback .
You cannot directly sync your m:IQ contacts with another source. That being said, because we sync with your phone, and your phone can sync with other contact sources, then we can indirectly sync your contacts with another source. See Can I still use m:IQ if I sync with a different external contact source for more information.
The m:IQ solution includes automatic de-duping functionality so that duplicate contacts get deleted by our server – which then get automatically updated on your phone and web experience. As long as your contact includes a last name, e-mail address, or phone number, then the de-duping functionality should work.
The exception to this is outlined in Can I still use m:IQ if I sync with a different external contact source. In this case, contact duplicates will appear if you sync with m:IQ first and a different contact source second.
The easiest way to delete your contacts is to click on the contacts icon in the header of your m:IQ dashboard, click on the Select All link, and then hit the Delete Contacts button on the right. You’ll need to do this a few times, but it should be a pretty quick process.
If you have way too many contacts to easily do this, then feel free to reach out to http://miqlive.com/about/feedback, and we can wipe your contacts for you 24-72 hours later.
No. Unfortunately, at this point m:IQ does not support exporting your contacts to your desktop.
Couldn’t find what you were looking for? Submit your question by visiting http://miqlive.com/about/feedback .
No. m:IQ makes it much easier to read, reply to, compose, and organize your messages when in front of a computer – but we won’t make them free. Because the messages from the web are routed through the native text messaging application on your phone your phone, your operator counts them as if they were sent from your phone. As such, you still get charged for every message you send from the dashboard.
Check your plan and make sure you have enough text messages to support your messaging needs.
Your web text messaging is going to be treated in exactly the same way it is on your phone – you’ll be charged for each person or number that you send a message to (or put another way, every phone that receives a message from you). In the future, the same will be true when we support group messaging.
Be careful and make sure you have enough messages in your plan. It’s easy to get carried away when you have a large, luxurious, computer keyboard at your disposal.
Start typing and you’ll see for yourself. Basically, it searches across all fields within your messages and filters your results. The search is conducted across the date/time that the message was sent or received, the content of the message, the phone contact or number it was sent to or received from, and whether or not you were the one sending or receiving it.
For example, if you typed in “Niki,” then the window would display all messages that contained “Niki” in the information we collect on the.
If you typed in “Niki May received,” then you would see all messages received in May from Niki or from people that included “Niki” in the message copy.
Text messages will only send from the web if your m:IQ Mobile client is on, set to automatic sync (Menu > Settings), and showing that it’s Connected and In Sync when you’re trying to send the text message. If any of those criteria are not met, then your web text messages will fail to send. Unfortunately, this means that text messages will not send from the web if your m:IQ Mobile client is set to Manual Sync mode
We recommend hitting Sync Now if you meet those criteria, and web text messaging still is not working.
Text messages will only automatically upload if your m:IQ Mobile client is on, set to automatic sync (Menu > Settings), and showing that it’s Connected and In Sync when you’ve received a text message. In manual sync mode, text messages will only upload after you’ve hit Sync Now.
A small number of users have reported that text messages will stop uploading after a certain point for apparently no reason. We're not sure why this happens, but these users have had success with looking for corrupt text messages (i.e. unknown sender, no copy in text body, etc.) on or around the last date of upload on the phone (inbox, sent, deleted) or the web. Just clear these out, and you should be good to go.
Yes. Just add multiple recipients when composing a New Message, and each number will receive the text. Keep in mind that your operator will bill you for each number in the To field.
We plan on adding improved group text messaging functionality in the future.
BlackBerry, Android, Windows Mobile: No. Because most of our users want to be able to free up phone memory while still having their text messages backed-up on m:IQ , we’ve set it up so that users can delete from the phone without deleting on the web.
Symbian: Yes. Text messages are a two-way sync. This means that if you delete an SMS from the web, it will delete from your phone. If you delete an SMS from your phone, it will delete from the web.
Unfortunately, we do not yet offer the ability for you to export your text messages to your desktop.
Unlike other Open OS mobile phone platforms, BlackBerry does not support the types of developer APIs that we need in order for us to access the old text messages on your phone. As a result, only text messages sent or received after the m:IQ Mobile client is installed will upload to the web, and only if the m:IQ Mobile client is running at the time. We hope that BlackBerry will support the necessary APIs in the future.
Because BlackBerry does not support the types of developer APIs that other open OS mobile phone platforms do, m:IQ is unable to upload any text messages to the web unless the m:IQ Mobile client is running in the background when the text message is sent or received. If your messages aren’t uploading to the web, then it’s likely because m:IQ Mobile wasn’t running in the background at the time.
Unlike other Open OS mobile phone platforms, BlackBerry does not support the types of developer APIs that we need in order for us to add the messages you send from the web to the text messaging application on your phone. As a result, there’s nothing we can do at this point until BlackBerry supports these platform APIs.
No, at this point we do not upload or support sending picture messages. That being said, we do allow for users to text message links of photos over to friends, which they can then view by clicking on the link and opening a mobile phone web browser.

At this point, m:IQ does not offer the ability to schedule meetings or to invite attendees. Although m:IQ will display the meetings you create from your phone or other calendar sources, it only offers appointment functionality when it comes to scheduling events.
The m:IQ solution includes automatic de-duping functionality so that duplicate calendar events get deleted by our server – which then get automatically updated on your phone and web experience. As long as your event includes a title, a start date/time, and an end date/time, then the de-duping functionality should work.
The exception to this is outlined in Can I still use m:IQ if I sync with a different external calendar source. In this case, calendar duplicates will appear if you sync with m:IQ first and a different calendar source second.
Yes, m:IQ will restore the calendar events on the web to your phone. That being said, if you sync your calendar with a different external calendar source as well, then you’re going to want to use that source to restore your calendar events instead of m:IQ. Additional details are outlined in Can I still use m:IQ if I sync with a different external calendar source.
Yes, you can still use m:IQ even if you’re using a service such as Outlook, Exchange, Google, etc.. Some of our customers have had a few issues during initial sync, so please read on if you’re using any of these or other sync services.

m:IQ provides you with 1 GB of storage by default. How many photos and videos you are able to store depends upon the quality of camera you’re using and how long your videos are on average. With m:IQ , you can easily view, organize and share your photos or videos, and they’ll stay there, even if you delete them from your phone or switch to a new one.
Privacy mode means that the photos and videos you capture and upload on the go will be private – no matter how your other settings are configured. For example, you might have configured your photo uploads to automatically share to Facebook. Well if you turn on Privacy Mode on your m:IQ Mobile client (Menu > Settings), then your photo will still upload to your private m:IQ web account, but it won’t automatically share to Facebook. The same holds true for all other automatic sharing settings.
Privacy settings are available to enable you to determine who sees what from your mobile experiences.
First, to control whether or not your images are made public via your Shared page, you’ll want to click on Settings in the top right corner of your web dashboard and select your Public Page. From there, you can control what information is displayed on your shared page.
Second, when back on the main dashboard view, you should click on your Settings link just below your name in the top left corner of the page to control whether or not your media items are automatically shared with your favorite social networking sites.
Once a media item is on the web, you can make individual exceptions to overall settings by clicking on the Photos and/or Videos icons in the header and using the available privacy controls.
You can even override default sharing settings before an item makes it up to the web by enabling Media Privacy on your m:IQ Mobile client (Menu > Settings), which will make all media items private by default – no matter how your other settings are configured.
The images are almost certainly on your phone – it’s just that you probably don’t realize it. Some applications will automatically add images to your phone in the folders in which we search for pictures to upload to the web. Examples of this include applications like Zumobi or album art from media players. As a result, m:IQ simply views it as another image to upload to the web, and does so irrespective of where it came from.
It’s likely that these media items are not in folders that the m:IQ Mobile client searches through when looking for pictures and videos to upload to the web. At this point, m:IQ only searches through the following directories on both the phone device memory and your SD/Media card: BlackBerry (Pictures, Videos), Symbian S60 (Images, Videos), Windows Mobile (My Pictures, My Videos, DCIM). You’ll need to move all media items to these folders if you’d like for m:IQ to upload these files to the web.
Also, it might be that you have a very large video that exceeds our upload limits or causes sync to fail partway through. In this case, moving this file to a different location might free things up.
No. m:IQ will only upload pictures and videos from both your phone device memory and your SD/Media card if located in the following directories: BlackBerry (Pictures, Videos), Android (Gallery), Symbian S60 (Images, Videos), Windows Mobile (My Pictures, My Videos, DCIM). You’ll need to move all media items to these folders if you’d like for m:IQ to upload these files to the web.
No. Because most of our users want to be able to free up phone memory while still having their pictures and videos backed-up on m:IQ , we’ve set it up so that users can delete from the phone without it deleting on the web.
Some sites will periodically force your account credentials to expire for security purposes. Simply re-input your credentials and you should be good to go.
In some cases, users have reported that their credentials are expiring more frequently than expected. We’re unclear why some users have reported seeing this in the past, but if you do see it, then we recommend setting your social network account credentials using a different web browser than the one you typically use, and this issue should disappear.
No, but you can send them to your friends as links that they can open in a web browser.
Simply click on the Photos and/or Video icons on the header, check the box next to the items you want to download to your computer, and click on the Download Media button in the top right of the page. A small downloader application will then launch and you’ll be prompted to click on a Download button again and then select the location where you’d like to download your media.
Some users have reported that media downloads will not work from the All tab, but rather only if you download photos and videos separately.
No. At this point, m:IQ will not restore media items from the web to your phone.

With m:IQ , you will be able to access and modify your phone settings from the web and have everything instantly sent down and configured on your phone.
At this point, you can only set Internet favorites for your mobile phone web browser. In the future, you’ll be able to preview and select your ringtones and background image, configure your personal e-mail accounts, add contacts to speed dial, set your alarm clock, and all sorts of other stuff. As always, the future sounds much sweeter than the present – so stay tuned!
Your m:IQ dashboard will say Connected when there’s an active connection between our servers and your phone. In order for this connection to exist, the m:IQ Mobile client needs to be on, set to automatic sync (Menu > Settings), and showing that it’s Connected and In Sync.
If you’re Not Connected, then this means that one of the preceding criteria did not hold true. In this case, actions such as sending a text message, editing a contact, or creating a calendar event will not get pushed to or through your phone until that Connection is reestablished. If in Manual Sync mode, it also means that actions triggered on your phone such as receiving a text message, adding a contact, or receiving a call will not get pushed to the web unless you hit Sync Now on the m:IQ Mobile client.
m:IQ makes everything remarkably easy – as long as your new phone is supported by the m:IQ service.
Simply click on the change phone link or device image next to your phone profile and select your new phone. You’ll then need to download the m:IQ Mobile application by visiting http://m.miqlive.com on your mobile phone web browser. m:IQ will help you to restore and merge your contacts, calendar events, and web bookmarks (except for BlackBerry). Your photos, videos, text messages, and call logs will not yet be restored to your new phone, though they will remain backed up and accessible online.
The story is the same for reconfiguring a reset device.
Keep in mind that, although we do our best, some contact fields might not properly restore.
The likely explanation is that your web browser is blocking pop-ups originating from the m:IQ Site. Simply click on the prompt in your web browser to allow pop-ups from m:IQ.com, and you should be good to go.

Everybody can see your shared page, but they can only see photos and videos if you choose to share them. Sharing preferences can be controlled directly from your Shared page or from the Public Page tab located in your account Settings. Once shared, anybody who finds it can access your content.
Keep in mind that your shared page will default to media items not being shared until you adjust your privacy settings. Don’t be shy though – you’ll miss out on all the fun!
Only if you want for them to. Users have complete control over what gets shared (photos, videos), and by default your media items will not show up on your shared page until you open your account Settings and configure them to.
That being said, sometimes the standard settings might not make sense. As such, m:IQ enables users to make individual exceptions to overall settings by clicking on the Photos and/or Videos icons in the header and using the available privacy controls.
You can even override default sharing settings before an item makes it up to the web by enabling Media Privacy on your m:IQ Mobile client (Menu > Settings), which will make all media items private by default – no matter how your other settings are configured.
In addition to selecting what type of information is displayed on your shared pages, you have the option to customize your profile picture and your background image.
To make all of these changes, visit the Public Page section within your account Settings.
At this point, following somebody doesn’t mean much at all, as we haven’t fully implemented the feature set that gives functionality to this action. In the future, it will enable you to automatically receive updates on another m:IQ user’s activities that he/she elects to share.
Unfortunately, we do not yet provide users with the ability to edit or delete comments on their shared page. In the event that there’s a comment that you’d like to delete, then your only real work around at this point is to make that item private so that it no longer shows up on your shared page. See what if I don't want to display something that shows up on my shared page for more information.
When you share a picture or video as an e-mail or an SMS, the person you share with receives a link to that specific media item – which can be public or private. If private, then only clicking on that link will allow users to access that media item. Although this means that users cannot randomly stumble upon your media item, it also means that this link can be forwarded off to others – who can then click on the link to view your media item.
Bottom line: you’re going to want to be careful with what and how you share with others.

The Settings link at the top of your web dashboard enables you to control how you publish your mobile experiences and how your shared page looks.
To control synchronization-related settings, you’ll need to open the m:IQ Mobile client on your phone, and hit Settings or Items to Sync, where you can control what gets synced, how frequently sync happens, whether or not you’d like to override default privacy settings, and a host of other options.
When installing the m:IQ Mobile client, unless you indicate otherwise, your contacts, text messages, calendar events, photos, videos, calls, and phone settings will be automatically uploaded to your private web account. If you don’t want to upload all of this information, then you’ll want to click on the Choose Information to Sync link prior to creating your account on the mobile phone to select which content you want to upload. If you already have an existing account, then you’re going to want to Cancel Sync shortly after inputting your account credentials, hit Menu > Items to Sync, and then uncheck the data types that you don’t want to sync. You can change these setting at any time.
These settings have an impact on your data consumption, so we strongly recommend an unlimited data plan before you choose to upload all content from your phone to the dashboard.
Frequency of updates can be changed within the Settings section of the m:IQ Mobile application. Your options include how updates are handled (automatic or manual), whether or not you sync when roaming, and which data connection you want to use for synching media items (anything available or Wi-Fi only). By default, updates occur automatically over your cellular connection when you’re not roaming.
These settings have an impact on your data consumption, so we strongly recommend an unlimited data plan before you choose to upload all content from your phone, choose automatic uploads, or elect to sync when roaming. In particular, be very careful with roaming synchronization, because if you don’t have a special plan that covers roaming charges, then you could be in for a very unpleasant surprise when you receive your bill.
To change your password, go to My Account in your web Settings. Once you confirm your existing password, you can change it to whatever you’d like.
If you’ve lost your password, you’ll need to visit https://miqlive.com/forgot_password .
We take your privacy very seriously. In our minds, your phone should be as private as you want for it to be. As such, the information that we share is completely driven by what you have elected to share via your privacy and public page settings (found in your Settings).
In addition to this, we will never sell any of your private information to a third party for marketing or sales purposes.

Some people are comfortable with their information being online, others aren’t. If you’re on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, or any other social site, then you have some form of personal and sensitive information online. If you’re comfortable with this, then you’ll likely be comfortable with m:IQ , as we use similar security protections as Facebook and take protecting your privacy very seriously.
If you’re not, then an online cloud storage solution like m:IQ probably isn’t a good idea for you, and you’ll want to request that your account be removed from our system.

m:IQ offers you 1 GB of storage space by default for free. Although what you can do with this varies from phone to phone, this is roughly equivalent to X contacts, Y pictures, and Z videos on your typical phone with an X megapixel camera. Not bad for the price, huh?
